Are you all ready to take your lives to the next level in 2016, where inanimate objects come to life to take over your menial tasks – from driving a car to doing your shopping for you?

Just when you thought life couldn’t be any easier and there couldn’t be another technological break-through, you meet the world of IoT.

Let’s call it a smart life from now on – where you have a smart phone, a smart TV, smart alarms at home, smart baby monitoring cameras, smart refrigerators, smart cars, smart cities, smart cookers, smart clothing, even the shoes that you wear have gotten smarter by counting your steps or calories. It’s going to get bigger than it was in 2015. Studies indicate that IoT would expand four fold in 2016. McKinsey Global Institute’s report says that “potential economic impact” of IoT will be $4 trillion to $11 trillion annually by 2025.

Where would this BIG Data go?

Our lives have already changed so much. We start our day with communication devices and rely on them throughout the day. It’s not just the phone or laptop anymore; it’s every little thing that we do. Amazon has launched the new Push Button technology, where we are connected even while running errands. Now the things that we used to go online for, are just a push away.. It like saying “Abracadabra” and voilà the item you wish for will be at your door step without you having to go to the store

This year the data will be more geared towards providing a better end-user experience. Research by Tech Times suggest the consumer oriented sector is going to use this data even more than the tech sector. They’re going to work on reaping the benefits while simultaneously creating a unique smart experience for the consumers. The main hurdle would be to get consumers to buy-in into this radical new lifestyle in the shortest possible time.

Experience it while shopping:

Imagine a grocery story in which you don’t have to wait in long queues to check-out and that has smart shopping carts TAKE you directly to the item of your choice. This grocery store offers digitized coupons that are utilized on entry. Sounds like shopping heaven, doesn’t it?

Well, GOOD NEWS, you’ve entered the year where all this possible and then some more.

Major stores are working to enhance their customers’ shopping experience by offering smart shelves that don’t require a massive search operation to locate your item of choice.. Just scanning the bar code and selecting the color that’s required would provide the information, thus saving both time and energy. Retailers are planning to switch to smart price tags, which would adjust the price depending on the demand and supply of the specific product. These smart technologies will collect all the possible data and then will be used by other research companies. These sensors and devices would not only make the lives of the consumer and retailer easier but at the same time help the research companies in studying the trends of consumer behaviour.

Experience it on the go:

Cars will be connected just like phones. GM announced in 2015 that most of its newly manufactured cars would be embedded with the 4G LTE technology. It is an expensive technology, however it will keep us connected in this era of what is labelled as ‘hyper-connectivity.’ This technology will not only keep us connected but also it will be able to collect all the crucial data from the car and transfer it to the GM Cloud, which will greatly aid the mechanic in diagnosis and repair.

It will surely make the life of people like me much easier, who really don’t know much about the car, except to drive them!

Experience it at home:

With the concept of Smart Cities and Smart Homes already making waves in the world of IoT, it is but natural for Smart Kitchens to follow too. As per the report from All Recipes, people in the age group of 18-34 are looking for convenience in the kitchen too. Smart refrigerators will be able to notify you when any of the product is about to expire and even go so far as to suggest recipes that can be used with the existing ingredients.

With all the things being launched and used, the world of IoT is not a mere term anymore – it’s very much here and all set to stay and expand. As Fjord’s Curtis summed it very succinctly that while wearable devices, for instance, “may not achieve quite the same trajectory and pace” of the smartphone’s growth, he believes they’ll be widely adopted in the next five years.
