Being a remote worker for almost a year now – not within country, not even within the same continent – has been an amazing learning experience for me. The freedom to work at my own pace, at my own time, in my own home has been liberating to say the least.

People argue that time zone differences create issues in working remotely but in my case I have found it to be an advantage as I am done with my tasks for MY day before the day begins at my office and have received feedback and new instructions before my next working day starts!

Here are a few pointers I think are essential when you are working from home:

  1. Keep a track of deadlines and deliverables using a Project Management Software (We at MarkiTech are currently using Smart Sheet)
  2. A bi-weekly, weekly meeting is essential, in order to touch base and be clear on the tasking for the coming week

The only drawback, to all this is maybe missing out on social interaction and on-site meetings, though Skype calls and Google Hangouts more than make up for it.
